Western Australia’s Waste Taskforce advises the Minister for Environment on waste management in the state – including recycling market issues and opportunities to counter the Chinese Government’s import restrictions on recyclable waste.
The Taskforce plays a critical role in developing local opportunities to support recycling, complementing work at a national level and helping to deliver a thriving recycling sector in Western Australia.
It’s a key part of the McGowan Government's commitment to improving our state’s waste and recycling performance.
Established in March 2018, the Taskforce is chaired by Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Environment, Reece Whitby MLA, and includes representatives of:
- the Waste Authority and Department of Water and Environmental Regulation;
- local government and regional councils;
- the waste services and recycling industry;
- the packaging industry;
- community groups; and
- key government agencies.
